Hi from the USVI!
From beach reopenings to insider info, we’d like to share these good-to-knows and need-to-knows as you plan your trip to the Virgin Islands…
Heard about Caneel Beach reopening?
It can be a little confusing
You might have seen that Caneel Beach has reopened, but it gets a little confusing because the Caneel Bay Resort is still closed from the damage caused during Hurricane Irma in 2017. There’s also Caneel Bay Beach Club, which is a beachfront service that was created in late 2022 to bring back a touch of the Caneel Bay Resort experience during its redevelopment.
To further clarify, Caneel Bay Beach Club is on the very nice and quiet Honeymoon Beach. It offers amenities like chair rentals, showers, bathrooms, beach games, and walk-up food and drink service. It’s even got cabanas to rent if you’d like to come back and spend the day here.
Turns out, Honeymoon Beach is the one beach on St. John that allows our catamarans to pull right up. While our BVI trips have beach-time baked in, the USVI trips are generally more about swims, snorkels, and lounging on our spacious catamarans. The option to pull up to Honeymoon Beach adds an awesome beach experience to your USVI day trip.
Honeymoon Beach and its Unique Shore Access on St. John
As we mentioned, Honeymoon Beach is the only spot on St. John where we can bring our catamaran directly to shore. While it’s possible to swim from our boat to some other great beaches on St. John, this unique access makes it a perfect stop for guests looking for convenience and the simple delight of walking down our steps into the shallow waters and being just steps to the beach.
Once we pull up, jump in for a swim and explore with your snorkel, or post up and bask in the sun and sand. If you wish, grab a nibble and a drink and rent a beach chair from the Beach Club. This will give you access to beach games and a shower too if you’re interested. If you’ll be in St. John for a bit, scope out the cabanas as an idea for later in the week.
And if you are interested in the other nearby beaches, let us know. Some of them you can swim in from the boat. Generally, though, the snorkels and swims and the comfort of the catamaran are a perfect way to spend your day.
VORADO deals are still going, but ending soon.
While M/V Voodoo is out until mid-October, our M/V Vorado special runs through October 10. Vorado’s spacious design, shallow draft, and impressive speed make it perfect for uncovering secluded hidden gems.
